Depending on the type of mushroom, there are numerous conditions you should look for to determine when to forage mushrooms in California
These include:

- Temperature. Both the air temperature and soil temperature.
- Soil Conditions

- Winter Season
- If the mushroom you are looking to forage grows in the winter then the best time to hunt for it is between November and February.
- Spring Season

- Summer Season

This again will depend on the type of mushroom you are foraging. Typically, they can be found:
